Arugam Bay, located approximately 220 kms and an 8 hour drive away from Colombo, is in close proximity to the town of Pottuvil. With its breathtaking bay and three key surf spots (Arugam Point, Pottuvil Point and Crocodile Rock) Arugam Bay is amongst the ten best locations in the world for surfing. The surf is at its best from April thru late September.
In addition to surfing, scuba diving facilities for underwater photography and exploring of centuries old ship wrecks are all possible. Comfortable hotel accommodation is available in Arugam bay but it’s advisable to book these facilities before departing Colombo.

• Make sure that you have a valid driver’s license ( international driving license would be great ) and that your vehicle is adequately insured.
• Although not mandatory, always wear your seatbelts for safety.
• Do not use a mobile phone without a hands-free or Blue-Tooth kit when on the road. It is a punishable offence to handle a mobile phone with your hands while driving.
• Headlamp flashing – means make way for me!
• Three wheelers / Buses / Motor Cyclists / Cyclists – the majority of these do not have proper working indicator lights on their vehicles. Be prepared to make sudden stops, swerves etc.
• Parking – parking on most pavement areas in Colombo is prohibited. Please use designated parking areas. The usual fee is Rs. 20.00 per hour.
• Give way to vehicles approaching from your right at intersections and roundabouts.
• Toot your horn to gain attention, caution other road users.
