Negombo

Negombo is a modest beach town located just 10km from Bandaranaike International Airport. With a stash of decent hotels and restaurants to suit all pockets, a friendly local community. Negombo is the Major tourist destination in Sri Lanka. Negombo offers one of the best sandy beaches and hotels and resorts on the west coast of Sri Lanka. It draws tourists who stop over for a day on their way to or from the airport. Negambo beach is referred to as the golden mile,  Negambo was used as a main export harbor for cinnamon by the Portuguese, Dutch and British and it still bestowed with historical buildings. The town itself shows its interesting colonial past which was heavily influenced by the Catholic Church. There are plenty of beachside restaurants, hotels and shops. The fine sandy beaches and peaceful ocean make Negombo a top destination for relaxation beach activities.  Some quiet stretches of the beach are maintained by the tourist hotels, while others are always busy with fishermen and their equipment

Bentota

Benthota Beach is a beautiful  with soft white sand and clean sea. Ideal for Windsurfing and Sailing and equipment can be hired locally. Its best during the October to April holiday season, with safe swimming – There are some fine beachside hotels, which also have swimming pools, as well as guest houses to suit all budgets close to the carefully planned developed area. The Bentota Ganga and Lulu Ganga are rivers that make Bentota into a sort of peninsula. The rivers have water sports and boat rides for those interested.

Mirissa

Mirissa  is a small town on the south coast of Sri Lanka, located in the Matara District of the Southern Province. It is approximately 150 kilometres (93 mi) south of Colombo and is situated at an elevation of 4 metres (13 ft) above sea level. Mirissa’s beach and nightlife make it a popular tourist destination. It is also a fishing port and one of the island’s main whale and dolphin watching locations

Hikkaduwa

Hikkaduwa beach is a very popular destination to international tourists in Sri Lanka. It is 98 kilometers south from Colombo. It is one of the beautiful beach in South where you can relax, enjoy the sun and have the option of surfing, snorkeling or scuba diving. You can site the famed coral garden, through the glass bottomed boats which is available on hire and visitors can explore the underwater enchanted place. From the necked eyes you can see seventy varieties of multi-colored corals. You can visit the Seenigama Muhudu Viharaya, (A temple in the middle of the Sea).  Hikkaduwa is well known for its upbeat night life and delicious roadside food which presents a fusion of Sri Lankan and western food. The extraordinarily attractive beach of Hikkaduwa is a place of fun and excitement and always has something for everyone. It is reputed as the second best surfing spot in Sri Lanka.

Arugam Bay

Arugam Bay is located 317 km (197 mi) from Colombo and contains a wide beach with several fishing villages nearby. It is located in the dry zone of Sri Lanka’s southeast coast. It has been identified as the best surfing beach in Sri Lanka and the fourth best in southeast Asia. Lahugal National Park and Yala East National Park are located within a 10–30 km  radius from the Arugam Bay center. Magul Maha Viharaya (Buddhist temple), Kudumbigala Temple (Buddhist temple), Shastrwela Buddhist Temple, Okanda Hindu Temple are all in the area.

Tangalle

Tangalle is a regionally important fishing port, situated on one of the largest bays in Sri Lanka, which is protected from the ocean by an enclosing reef. It is a center of tourism and a popular holiday destination on the south coast. In the town Center, there is an old Dutch fort which is used as a prison today.The Dutch and subsequently the British used. Tangalle as an important anchorage on the southern coast of the island. The Dutch Fort, Rest House and Court House are a few remaining examples of Dutch architecture in Tangalla. It is located 195 km (121 mi) south of Colombo and 35 km (22 mi) east of Matara. It has a mild climate, in comparison to the rest of the district, and sandy beaches.

Kalpitiya

Kalpitiya is a fishing village that is located on the western coast of Sri lanka 170 km (110 mi) .The beaches are remote and uncrowded The major activities are centered around the lagoon, the wind is suitable for kite surfing and windsurfing. It is also one of the spots from where you can see whale & dolphin . Kalpitiya can be reached via Colombo Puttalam Rd/A3 .
