- 2. What documents are required to rent a vehicle?
A valid local or international driving license. All other driving licenses must be endorsed by the Automobile Association of Sri- Lanka. This procedure could be arranged for a fee of USD 28.00
- 3. Does the rental price of the vehicle include insurance costs?
The rental price includes insurance costs subject to an excess of USD 175.00 in case of an accident.
- 4. Are there any mileage restrictions?
Ameri -Rent- A - Car permits 100 Kms per day, free of charge. Please see our vehicle listings for excess mileage charges.
- 5. Where can I pick up and/or drop off the vehicle?
You could pick up the vehicle at our office during office hours between 7.30 am and 6.00 pm. As an additional service, we provide airport (CMB) pick up for an extra charge of USD 20.00. If you want to drop off the vehicle at the CMB airport a further charge of USD. 20.00 will be levied. (both ways USD 40.00)
If you want us to deliver the vehicle to you within Colombo city limits, an additional charge of USD 10.00 will be levied and for delivery and drop of out side Colombo, the additional charge will depend on the distance to the delivery point.
- 6. If unsatisfied with the rental vehicle, can I change to another?
This is possible, depending upon the availability of the requested vehicle.
- 7. What is the payment procedure? Is a deposit required on the rental vehicle?
The total rental fee must be paid at the time of collecting your vehicle. A refundable deposit of USD 200.00 for cars, USD 30.00 for vans and USD 350.00 for Jeeps are required.
- 8. Credit card payments?
All major credit cards will be accepted and this facility is available only in our office in Colombo between 7.30 am and 6.00 pm. All payments outside our office (including Colombo Airport) should be made by cash in whatever currency you prefer.
- 9. What are Ameri Rent a Car office hours?
When you hire a vehicle from Ameri Rent A Car with or without driver, please note our office hours are between 7.30 am to 6.00 pm. Prior arrangements may be made for returning or collecting a vehicle beyond these hours, and in such case an additional charge of USD 15.00will be levied for pick up or collection within Colombo city limits and if it is outside city limits the charge will depend on the distance to the point of collection.

- 11. What is your insurance policy?
In case of an accident, you are liable to pay a maximum sum of USD.175 being the compulsory excess in the insurance policy, provided you inform the insurance authorities no sooner the accident occurs, and get their consent to proceed with the claim.
- 12. How do I get the local driving permit?
To get the local driving license if you have the driving license of your own country, you will have to obtain the local driving permit from Sri Lanka Motor Department, for which you will be required to present yourself with 2 photographs and passport. If you have an international driving license, please send us scanned copies in advance which enable us to obtain local driving permit from Automobile Association of Sri Lanka prior to your arrival. This is a legal requirement and it is mandatory. We will assist you to get the permit here in Sri Lanka. This service is available from Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm except Saturdays, Sundays and other public holidays. USD.28 will be charged for this procedure, being the taxes payable to the government authorities.
